Why the Saved are a problem to the Unsaved – even to Christians who may not be saved.
In my last Blog I spoke about how I needed to recognise that the unsaved people, no matter if Christian, all had a problem relating to me. That I should take care not to criticise them to harshly for sins against me that they can’t help committing.
Why can’t they?
Simply because they, the unsaved, are unable to do those things that only the Holy Spirit of God can do through them.
Unsaved people can show me good-will, but it is the imperfect love that comes from an unsaved person. A person who does not have the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God in them. Galatians 5:22 ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.’
The saved and unsaved people are not the same.
In the following passages taken from the Holy Bible, the Apostle Paul teaches the saved people who are living in error – living as the unsaved. I have highlighted the points I want to make. The point that the saved and unsaved are different. It looks as though some of the saved have slipped back into acting like the unsaved and that is why Paul is teaching them the error of their ways.
Paul, before he was saved by the Lord Jesus, was a knowledgeable man who eradicated those who acted against his knowledge. He said that one of his sins was envying others, so perhaps he envied the saved he was trying to eradicate. But after he was saved by the Lord Jesus, he changed to being a knowledgeable man who educated those who acted against his knowledge.
Here he is educating those who were disobeying their Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Lawsuits among believers
1 Corinthians 6:1 If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? 2 Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? 5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6 But instead, one brother takes another to court – and this in front of unbelievers!
7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters. 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men [The words men who have sex with men translate two Greek words that refer to the passive and active participants in homosexual acts.] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
12 ‘I have the right to do anything,’ you say – but not everything is beneficial. ‘I have the right to do anything’– but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, ‘Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.’ The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, ‘The two will become one flesh.’ [Gen. 2:24] 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. [Or in the Spirit]
18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.
Paul clearly teaches us that a relationship with God demands different behaviour to those who do not have that relationship. John 14:23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”
Disciples of Jesus, those who are born again of the Spirit of God, are living proof that the above words described in verse John 14:23 are true. That is why they are hated so much by the Christians who are not born again of the Spirit of God, but are as described in verse John 14:24 – haters of the Lord Jesus.
The World Hates the Disciples
The Lord Jesus said in John 15:18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ [John 13:16] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfil what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’ [Psalms 35:19; 69:4]
After 38 years of loving my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, I have no friends, not even from within my family.
Unless you study the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ and open yourself to the Holy Spirit of God, you will never know how to behave in a way that is pleasing to God. However, even if you do that, chances are that you will make mistakes that displease your Lord.
Saved people love the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour from Hell. When the saved make mistakes, they are treated like Children of God.
Unsaved people hate the Lord Jesus Christ because that is what the Devil wants them to do. Why? Because the Devil does not want anybody going to Heaven. Including you! When the unsaved make mistakes, they are treated like Children of the Devil.
