True and false disciples
Matthew 7:21 ‘Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, “Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?” 23 Then I will tell them plainly, “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”
The meaning of Knew is a past description of Know. ‘I never knew you’ and ‘I don’t know you’.
Now the Lord Jesus was clearly aware of them through observation, inquiry, or information. But he had not developed a relationship with them through meeting and spending time with them; be familiar or friendly with them.
They were, as many are today, Professing Christians who call themselves “Christian” but out of a desire to go to Heaven or not go to Hell. Because of their selfishness in life, they refused to be a friend of the Lord Jesus Christ and of Mankind. Not because they are a friend of God and Mankind.
John 14:23 Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.’
New International Version of the Holy Bible used – UK
Thus their fate was to enter Hell, not Heaven.
The True Christian is a Disciple of the Lord Jesus.
A Disciple is a personal follower of or pupil of the Lord Jesus Christ. To be that, then you must be in a good relationship with Him.
Those whom He does not know, are not in this ‘Pupil’ situation. They do not have the Holy Spirit of God to teach them further truth.
