The Devil stops unbelievers from seeing the truth in these two verses
John 14:23 Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.’
Religion in Birmingham where I have lived for 31 years
Modern-day Birmingham’s [UK] cultural diversity is reflected in the wide variety of religious beliefs of its citizens. 74.1% of residents identified themselves as belonging to a particular faith in the 2011 Census, while 19.3% stated they had no religion and a further 6.5% did not answer the question.
I have spent 39 years witnessing for Jesus, 31 of which have been in Birmingham, England.
No matter what I do to mobilise my local Churches for Spiritual Warfare, the response is nil. No matter what means of communication I try, and I have tried a lot, no response. Even spiritual signs and wonders fail to get them responding. I meet them face to face and can see that their minds are blank to the efforts of the Holy Spirit.
Yet sometimes, if rarely, I do get a response, but not from Church Leaders. Just individual Christians.
Whatever, I will not stop trying to witness to them about the truth that they can’t see. The Lord Jesus spoke about how his true disciples who make up His Body here on earth will be salt and light to those around them
Matthew 5:13 ‘You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 ‘You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
The Apostle Paul wrote about this problem – Present Weakness and Resurrection Life
2 Corinthians 4:1 Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” [Gen. 1:3] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” [Psalm 116:10 (see Septuagint)] Since we have that same spirit of [Or Spirit-given] faith, we also believe and therefore speak, 14 because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself. 15 All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
So, it is very clear!
The time is right for both those described in John 14:23 and those described in John 14:24 to have their minds cleared of evil thoughts, responses, and actions:
Those in John 14:23 need to remember whom He is and whom They are. To continue to do what He teaches and commands, that they may receive those tremendous things that He offers them. And not stop doing them and thus be punished like those in John 14:24.
Those in John 14:24 need to learn whom He is and whom They are. To stop showing their hatred for Him and their lying that defames Him as also being a Liar, that they will avoid the terrifying things that He will do to them if they don’t become like those in John 14:23.
The Saddest People I have known
Yes, there are people on this Earth, both from v23 and v24, for whom suffering and pain is constantly their experience and thus brings them sadness beyond belief. BUT the saddest, even most pathetic, people are those spiritually Unconverted CHRISTIANS who live out their CHRISTIANITY by avoiding all unpleasant truths and instead seek out comforting lies. Not only that, they also stop Lost Souls from discovering the wonderful Soul-Saving truth about the Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew 23:13 ‘Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.’
THE WARNINGS TO BOTH GROUPS ARE CLEAR – BEST WE START TAKING THEM SERIOUSLY
The Gospel of Jesus that many Christian Leaders need to use.
The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit without which we are just playing at Christianity.
