Selfish people can’t show true love

[God willing, my Blog and Podcast will be published every morning except Sunday.]

John 14:23 Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.’

Selfishness is NOT True Religion

Selfish Christians are False Christians. They are Impenitent Sinners and that is why they can’t show true love to Jesus. No matter how much true love you show them, they will eat your heart before you ever win theirs!

Christianity cannot exist where loving obedience to the Lord Jesus does not. Yes, it might be like the love that a Baby might have, but it will grow as the newborn spiritual person grows in grace under the teaching and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Being a true disciple of Jesus is all about life-long-learning while growing up in the wonderful company of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Bible is a teaching aid, but without the baptism of the Holy Spirit, it will not save you from yourself – your unbelief and selfishness.

Charles Finney did a terrific sermon on this subject and I recommend that you study it.

Lectures To Professing Christians
Lecture III. 1837
SELFISHNESS NOT TRUE RELIGION

TEXT. 1 Corinthians 13:5 It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

THAT is, Charity, or Christian love, seeketh not her own.

The proposition which I design to establish this evening, is the following:

THAT A SUPREME REGARD TO OUR OWN HAPPINESS IS INCONSISTENT WITH TRUE RELIGION.

This proposition is naturally the first in the series that I have been labouring to illustrate in the present lectures, and would have been the first to be discussed, had I been aware that it was seriously called in question by any considerable number of professed Christians. But I can honestly say, that when I commenced these lectures, I did not expect to meet any serious difficulty here; and therefore I took it in a great measure for granted, that selfishness is not religion. And hence, I passed over this point with but a slight attempt at proving it. But since, I learn that there are many professed Christians who maintain that a supreme regard to our own happiness is true religion, I think it necessary to examine the subject more carefully, and give you the arguments in favour of what I suppose to be the truth. In establishing my proposition, I wish to distinguish between things that differ; I shall therefore

I. Show what is not intended by the proposition, that a supreme regard to our own happiness is not religion.

II. Show what is meant by it. And

III. Attempt to prove it.
