The Lord Jesus Christ is always with His Disciple

Witnessing for Jesus
John 14:23 Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”
True Disciples of Jesus have both Him, and his Father, living in them today. It has always been like that! His loving disciples are living proof that He is alive today. That is why they are hated so much, yet always respond with love and true teaching that may help their persecutors.

No matter what the Disciple of Jesus endures, it is always in the company of a living God.

Acts 7:54-60 New International Version – UK (NIVUK)
The stoning of Stephen

[St. Stephen, (died 36 ce, Jerusalem; feast day December 26), Christian deacon in Jerusalem and the first Christian martyr, whose apology before the Sanhedrin (Acts of the Apostles 7) points to a distinct strand of belief in early Christianity. … He lived in Jerusalem and had become a Christian.]

54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 ‘Look,’ he said, ‘I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.’

57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul [Who was later to become an Apostle, a Witness, of Jesus.]

59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ When he had said this, he fell asleep.

  • was a true Disciple of his Lord Jesus (John 14:23)

  • spoke the truth about Jesus and those whom hated Him

  • he was full of the Holy Spirit, his killers were not

  • he was able to see spiritual things. He saw into heaven, even saw his Lord and Saviour. He even told those near him, even though he was about to be killed

  • he saw the evil anger of many as they rushed to kill him

  • he never lost his love and faith in his Lord and Saviour, but stood firm until his death

  • he knew he was chosen to help others come to know, love and obey, Jesus

  • he recognised they were doing evil out of their ignorance to the truth about God

  • he desired that Jesus would show mercy towards those who were stoning him

Those we call “Christless Christians” would not have acted as Stephen did. Why, because they would not, have not, the Holy Spirit of God (John 14:24)
